Gosford Bound

After the Christmas festivities, it was time to head out of town for a few days of well deserved R & R. Gosford on the Central Coast was our destination! Traffic was light, as most people had already left before Christmas.

The Gosford region of the Central Coast has magnificent National Parks, glittering waterways and stunning beaches. The seaside villages of Terrigal, Avoca Beach, and Killcare are renowned for their beaches and spectacular  coastline. Meanwhile Ettalong Beach, Woy Woy, and Gosford are located on the picturesque Brisbane Water.

The Skillion

The panorama is 9 images taken in the portrait orientation.

  • Images 1 through to 12 were taken along Brisbane Water starting at Woy Woy Wharf, and ending at Lions Park and the boat ramp.
  • Image 7,  The abandoned Huckelberry Finn's. Back in the 1920's, the shop started out as a Oyster Merchants, and closing as a Fish & Chip Shop.
  • Image 8, Whittens Organic Oyster farm at Koolewong. Sunrise.

Long Jetty is appropriately named, as it features 3 extremely long jetties spanning out over shallow waters of Tuggerah Lake. Parrys Jetty, Walkins Jetty, and Long Jetty. If the conditions were right, with clouds in the sky, one can capture stunning sunsets here. I found my friend the pelican sitting on a post during my scout around the jetties during the day.

The Skillion in Terrigal is a local landmark, and a busy place, even at sunrise! Though the Central Coast was not effected by the bushfires and smoke. My visit for a sunrise shoot was a failure. Myself, and two other photographers waited in vein as the posted time came and went without so much as a little colour in the sky. For some reason, this morning had a haze hanging over the sea that turned the sun into a orange ball. Having to live with a constant smoke haze in the air for the past three weeks as bushfires burnt in the Blue Mountains, and raging through the Southern Highlands. There was no distinctive smell of smoke in the air.

Seeing that sunrise was a failure, packing up and walking back to the car. I noticed the dead trees next to the path and steps that lead to the lookout on the Skillion. Plus, one of the two raptors from the day before, was sitting in one of the trees. A little research, and I woud say the raptor in question is a Black Kite. If anyone can correct me, please feel free to do so!
